I took a few minutes over the weekend to take a look at some of my blog statistics. I mean, I’ve been around for a few years now and I thought it’d be interesting to see what posts have been the most popular. Here is what I found…
You like to dream, as do I. Two of my top three posts are about my Bucket List. For those unaware, a bucket list is basically a wish list of things that you want to do before you “kick the bucket“. It was an idea brought to the forefront by a movie that came out in 2007 starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman called…you guessed it…The Bucket List.
It’s weird…as I look at this two-part post I see things that I don’t really want to do anymore. I mean, if an Ice Hotel wanted to offer me the chance to stay in it overnight, I’d probably jump at the opportunity. But is it something I would love to do before I die? No…I don’t think so.
I wrote the posts back in 2009, and it’s safe to say that my life has changed completely in the years since then. I’ve moved, I’ve gotten married, and I’ve got a large blended family that means the world to me. There just seems to be different priorities in life now.
You like my confessions. When I initially started doing “Confessions From A Cubicle”, I included stories from fellow bloggers and Twitter friends. It was a way to help keep my little “blogger circle” apprised of what was going on. As time moved on, I ended up writing about whatever was on my mind while I was experiencing some “down time” at work. That’s pretty much how it goes now. Two of my most popular posts were “Confessions” that had stories that may have appealed to a more general audience.
One had a story about Sheyla Hershey, who wanted to have the largest boobs in the world. Check that: this crazy woman wanted to have the largest implants in the world. I guess that’s one thing you can always rely on the Internet for: clicking on just about anything that has to do with boobs.
The other story was about how Fergie was possibly a lesbian. Well, not really an all-out lesbian, but was comfortable with her bisexual tendencies. I suppose that type of salacious story can bring about a lot of interesting readers. Of course, it was only a small part of the overall post so people may have been disappointed once they realized this wasn’t a porn blog with pics of anything appealing.
The Internet likes sex. One of my most popular posts is my “Top 5 List”. What’s that? Basically, it’s a list of celebrities that you would sleep with if we ever had the time and opportunity. Oh…and it’s a list of five people your significant other would let you sleep with if you ever had the time and opportunity. Sunshine wrote a companion piece and I’m sure her post is just as popular as mine. As I read through it, though, I’m shocked at how much my tastes have changed over the years. I absolutely NEED to update this list. It simply isn’t accurate anymore.
You like travel. This is one of the reasons I started a part-time travel blog, actually. Posts about Chicago, St. Louis, and our two incredible trips to the Caribbean are all top posts on my blog. And believe me when I tell you that there’s nothing else I’d rather do that give you more details about future trips with a ton of photos and stories. Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s happening any time soon. Be patient, though…it WILL happen.
You want to try peanut butter pizza. I’ve only tried this twice in my lifetime, but both times were fantastic. One of the two times I ate peanut butter pizza, I blogged about it and it’s ended up being one of my all-time most popular posts. It’s strange because I didn’t think much of it when I wrote the post, I just wanted to talk about this tasty pizza I ate. Hell…the restaurant I bought the pizza from doesn’t even exist anymore.
It will be interesting to see if my stats change over the next few years. It just goes to show that the most popular posts can sometimes just be things you write off the top of your head. You can’t always plan for popularity…it just happens.
