2013 was quite the year for me. I entered the year newly moved-in with Sunshine and attempting to get used to having a long-distance relationship with my son. I was ready for big things and trying to prepare for our wedding in August.
Here’s what else happened…
Sunshine inspired the heck outta me on New Year’s Day when she participated in a Polar Bear Dip. Crazy, but awesome.
One of my future step daughters gave me this card for no reason. How awesome is she?
Aaaaaand this was the end of Psy’s 15 minutes of fame. Saw this in February and nearly lost my shiznit. Really??
St. Patrick’s Day 2013
After being on the market for MONTHS, my house finally sold in March…giving Sunshine and I a little breathing room in the financial department, not having to carry two mortgages at the same time.
In April, I began preparing for the half-marathon I was going to run in September. I was up before 6am and trying to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
The three youngest kids in this awesome blended family have always gotten along famously. On this beautiful May morning, they were having a ton of fun playing together. It makes Sunshine and I very happy.
One of the greatest things that happened to me in 2013 was meeting my daughter (I still don’t have a blog nickname for her yet). As the year has gone on, she has become a more and more important part of not only my life, but the lives of my family, as well.
The family trip to Build-A-Bear in June. Don’t mind the Spongebob…he’s just an ex-boyfriend that doesn’t need to be identified.
You can tell just how much Sunshine’s daughters love their new big sister!
Throughout the entire year, getting together with my “new” daughter was always a good time.
Canada Day 2013!
This was a very special moment for me: the meeting of two sisters. Rugrat flew in from Ontario and, after picking her up at the airport, I took her to meet my “newest” daughter. They’d been texting each other already, so this was as exciting for them as it was for me.
Ankle Biter had a tough time tackling the dryer at the public washroom. Nearly blew the kid away!
Rugrat had a great time trying new things this summer. Getting on a Segway was one of them!
In July, Sunshine and I took the girls to the Halifax Pride Parade. It was Rugrat’s first time attending a Pride parade, and we were proud to oblige her. This was a fun event and one I try to see every year. It’s important for the kids to see this, too.
Sunshine and I were extremely excited to have T fly up from Texas to attend our wedding. We were honored that our “maid of best person” could share our special weekend with us.
August 11, 2013 — THE WEDDING!!
August 11, 2013 — MORE WEDDING!!
This was the first selfie we took (from the alter, no less) of us as a married couple.
Rugrat drew this (free hand!!) while the wedding reception was taking place. She is so incredibly talented!
This is, without question, our favourite photo from the wedding.
A family trip to the zoo in August.
One of the best parts of spending summers in Halifax, Nova Scotia: the Halifax International Buskers Festival!!
I was having a bad couple of months at my job, coming home depressed on a daily basis. I came home one day and found out that the girls had created “Todd Day”, in which they celebrated…me. This picked me up and helped me prepare for the coming months. These girls are awesome!
After months of training (probably not enough, though), I completed my first half marathon in September. While it was rough, it was quite the accomplishment for me. I might even do it again one day.
September 2013 — my new car!
I vividly remember just how beautiful Sunshine looked on this fall afternoon walk. I fell in love with her all over again.
A family trip to the local indoor amusement park! The top pic was taken on the rollercoaster.
Walking through corn fields and then apple picking. Family time!!
There are literally HUNDREDS of photos I could post from this spectacular trip to Chicago. We had an incredible host in Random Esquire and we ended up having an amazing trip. Can’t wait to go back!!
We got the kids to sneak a pic on Santa’s chair at the mall when he wasn’t there. The Spongebob on the left is another ex-boyfriend of my eldest daughter. Oh well…
2013 was an amazing year for Sunshine and I. A new daughter…a wedding…a trip to Chicago…a new job…so many incredible blessings that we do not take for granted. I can only believe that 2014 will be an even better year. Bring it on!!
