Helloooooo Chicago!!

Sunshine and I never had a honeymoon. We jumped from our wedding on August 11th to a week-long family vacation that started the next day. While it was awesome to celebrate our nuptials with the kids for an entire week, the lack of privacy didn’t exactly scream out “honeymoon”.

A few weeks ago, we were invited to go to Chicago by our good friend, Random Esquire. We weren’t sure we could afford the trip, but the stars aligned and the tickets were purchased. Needless to say, we were over-the-moon about the chance to visit our friend and spend a long weekend together in an incredible city.

Y’see, I was fortunate enough to have been able to visit Chicago on business a few years ago and hang out with Esquire, so not only did I get to bond with a friend but I also got to fall in love with the city itself.  There’s a vibrancy…a “life” or “pulse” that the city exudes that I’ve never felt anywhere else. I’ve been wanting to go back for years and now I get to do that and share the experience with my new bride.

We don’t have any specific plans other than…

1. The Magnificent Mile – Apparently, Chicago’s Magnificent Mile is one of the top ten hospitality, dining, and retail destinations in the world. It’s a 13-block stretch of North Michigan Avenue that runs from the banks of the Chicago River to the south, to Oak Street to the north. It contains over 460 stores, 275 restaurants, 60 hotels, and numerous other unique entertainment and attractions. We’ll be spending our day exploring here on Friday while Esquire works away the day.

Willis Tower2. Willis Tower – Most people still call this the Sears Tower, but that changed back in 2009 when the Willis Group obtained the right to rename the building. At the top of the tower is the famous Skydeck, which sits at 1,353 feet above the ground and towers over the rest of the city. I’ve been there before, but this is an experience I can’t wait to share with my new wife.

3. Shedd Aquarium – Random asked if we had any suggestions on a place where we could all go together as a “tourist attraction”. I know that Sunshine has never been to an aquarium before and I’ve heard really good things about this one, so I think this is definitely on our agenda.

4. MK – This is a restaurant that Random is “gaga” about and can’t wait to take us there. Definitely an establishment where Sunshine and I wouldn’t normally eat, but can’t wait to try!

We fly out this afternoon and fly back on Monday night. This is definitely going to be a fantastic time and I can’t wait to tell you all about it next week when we return.

  1. so awesome! I love Chicago!! Do the river tour too of all the architecture, if it is warm enough. I did that when I went there when my sister ran the Chicago Marathon. It was kind of cold but worth it. Very pretty 🙂 have a blast!
