Fun Music Friday

It’s been a tipsy turvy couple of weeks and I, for one, can’t wait to be able to sit back this weekend with Sunshine and have a relaxing weekend. Of course, in order to TRULY enjoy the weekend I think some music is in order.

The songs I picked this week are specifically chosen because they all remind me of summer for one reason or another.

First up is one of my favorite bands from the 80’s. They were a favorite primarily because nobody really knew who they were outside of the UK before this song came out, but I did…so it was almost a sense of “pride” when I saw them have a massive world-wide hit. Of course, that was their only world-wide hit…but whatever. I’m still a fan and this performance from last year shows that they’ve STILL got it!

I love it when my favorite band releases a new single and it doesn’t suck. This song is a fantastic cruisin’ song when you’re headed to the cottage or the beach. I love these guys!

This one isn’t a favorite of Sunshine’s, but it’s still in a weekly rotation on my iPod. It’s Canadian and it’s 80’s and it’s cheesy fun. What else do you want?

This song is by a band I’m not familiar with, but for whatever reason the song brings a smile to my face every time I listen to it. The video is kinda lame, though…but thankfully the energy in this live version more than makes up for it.

I was a huge fan of the 80’s new wave invasion, and one of the songs that sticks with me whenever it’s sunny outside is this classic from Nik Kershaw. Of course, it’s only classic if you’ve actually heard it before…

Alright…last song. This one might seem odd to some, but it’s from one of my all-time guilty pleasure movies: The Adventures of Ford Fairlane (a “so bad it’s good” movie starring Andrew “Dice” Clay from 1990). There was never any video for it and I’ve never seen it performed live, but this version of “Sea Cruise” by 50’s & 60’s singer Dion never fails to make me think of a fun summer day. Seriously…give it a chance if you’re in the mood for some pop music fun!

What songs are on your playlist when you think of summer? Whatever they are, I hope you take the time to listen to them this weekend and enjoy life for all it’s worth!
