You’re The Best Dad Ever!

Believe me…these are not words I’m used to hearing. As much as my kids love me, I’ve never actually heard those words before.

…until this weekend.

This was an Ankle Biter weekend and it didn’t really appear to be anything special. There weren’t any plans and we didn’t go out and do magical things. But for some reason, we really connected and had a great time together.

Twice during the weekend he said those words to me. Each time did not appear to be anything special, but yet he found them to be.

At this point, I don’t really care about the reasons(s) behind it. I’m a father…why would I want to question the reasons behind my son saying such an amazing thing to me?

So as I quickly write this on a Monday morning as he sleeps and I get ready to go to work, all I’ll say is that this has been a very memorable weekend because of those words. I couldn’t be more proud of my abilities as a father as I am today.

Fun Music Friday – Karaoke Edition

I cannot lie…I’m a karaoke dude. I’m not the greatest singer in the world but I sure love having fun on a mic with a crowd of people because I can at least carry a tune and I’m just a little bit on this side of extroverted, so I put on a show.

I had a dream last night that I was singing karaoke and it inspired today’s post. These are songs that I’ve sung before (some a lot more than others) and then there’s a special treat at the very end…

Have a great weekend everybody!

Wordless Wednesday: Rich Kids of Instagram Edition

Today’s Wordless Wednesday is going to be a bit different. Y’see, there is a new blog out there called Rich Kids Of Instagram that has caught my attention. Basically, it’s just pics of rich douchebags flaunting their wealth via Instagram or Twitter pictures.

Of course, I’m envious of their wealth. But then I see how full-of-it they are and thank my lucky stars that I don’t act like that. Then I sit back and laugh at them.

It’s a reminder that money, my friends, isn’t everything.

Here are some of my favorites, including the messages they wrote to accompany the pic. Enjoy…

Days Go By

I had an amazing four-day weekend with Sunshine. The Tall Ships had sailed into Halifax and it truly made for an amazing sight. Where the waterfront is one of my favorite places in the entire city, it came as no surprise to me that I ended up down there at least once every day from Thursday thru Sunday.

The crowds were heavy, the ships were beautiful, and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. It was truly the long weekend that I needed to re-charge my batteries.

Of course, yesterday not only brought me back to reality with work, but also back to reality with the job search. The days go by and I’m not getting nearly as many phone calls as I would like. I’m applying for jobs every day, but it’s such a crowded market right now with qualified people looking for work that it’s easy for my resume to slip through the cracks (at least that’s what I tell myself).

I’m certainly not giving up and I’m certainly doing my best to not get down on myself, with with Sunshine moving into OUR NEW HOME on Tuesday, it’s really difficult to just sit back and not want to be moving in with her. All a matter of time, I know…but things can’t happen soon enough.

Coming Home

I had an epiphany of sorts last night as I was making the drive from my house to Sunshine’s. For almost four years I’ve been making the 2 1/2 hour drive from my city to hers. For almost four years, I always “visited” her and then went back home.

Last night, for the first time, I felt as though I was COMING HOME.

The city…the kids…the home-to-be at the end of the month…it’s all finally coming together and it’s a very exciting time. It was a powerful feeling, too. A sense of calm…a sense of “this is the right thing to do”.

It just felt right.
