Fun Music Friday – Karaoke Edition

I cannot lie…I’m a karaoke dude. I’m not the greatest singer in the world but I sure love having fun on a mic with a crowd of people because I can at least carry a tune and I’m just a little bit on this side of extroverted, so I put on a show.

I had a dream last night that I was singing karaoke and it inspired today’s post. These are songs that I’ve sung before (some a lot more than others) and then there’s a special treat at the very end…

Have a great weekend everybody!

Fun Music Friday

I was preparing a 90′s music playlist for my Blogger Meet-Up in Maine next weekend (I’ve got an 80′s playlist already created…heh) and I forgot just how much fun 90′s music could be.

So for today, I bring to you some 90′s memories to get your toes tappin’ and your mind ready for a fun weekend!

This one is one of my favorite songs from the 90′s. It never took off at the small-town bar I used to DJ at, but it was huge elsewhere and is still a “cult classic” today.

I never really cared for this video very much, but the song was really popular during the whole “Cotton Eyed Joe” era of mixing dance with country music. I still rock out to this song every once in awhile.

C’mon…it’s “The Floor”!! How can you NOT want to move when you hear this song?

Vastly under-appreciated song from Coolio. Everybody is all about “Gangsta’s Paradise” and “Fantasic Voyage”, but this was the song for me.

These guys had quite the run of hit dance songs during the 90′s. This song was massive during my first couple of years as a DJ and I think it’s just as fun to listen to almost 20 years later.

Yeah…gotta finish up the day with some BBD. As cheesy as this song is, I think it still holds up well as a fun dance number.

That’s all I got, kids. So regardless of what kind of music gets your weekend going, just do what you can to have yourself a great weekend!

Fun Music Friday

It’s been a whirlwind week with a TON of exciting things going on with my life. So needless to say, I’ve got some anxious energy that I need to burn off.

Being a former DJ, the only thing that’s better than loud rock music to burn off energy (normally the negative kind) is some great dance music. So let’s see what we’ve got this week…

THIS SONG IS AWESOME!! If I was still DJ’ing, this would be my “go-to song” every Saturday night. Not a massive fan of the video, but I can’t get enough of the song itself:

And “Bangarang” kinda reminds me of a song I used to play ALL the time near the “height” of my DJ’ing days. Both this song and video totally rock (though I never completely understood the video):

I’m certainly not going to play it cool and say that I don’t enjoy my fair share of cheesy dance songs, too. I mean, just check this band out…they were HUGE in the late 90′s. I couldn’t go a full night without playing one or two of their songs (at least). Cheesy fun, thy name is Vengaboys!

And you can’t go wrong with some old-school hip-hop/dance. I mean, K7′s song is a classic!

What’s crazy is that I’m now old enough to have lived through original dance songs AND their remakes:

Well, that’s it for another week. Hope you all have a great weekend and regardless of what type of music you listen to, crank it up, relax, and let it free your soul!!!

Fun Music Friday

I’m needing a boost today. I need some music to lift my spirits up. Let’s see what I can find…

Ahhh…nothing brings a smile to my face faster than a cover tune by my favorite Canadian band, Walk Off The Earth. This one-take video is awesome.

I never wanted to like this song. I certainly never wanted to love it. But somehow, this little ditty about plastic drinking cups has turned me into one of the sheep. Oh well…I’ll just have to sing along, I guess.

This was a highlight of last weekend’s Bryan Adams concert for me. The crowd had been enjoying his show up until this song, but then for some reason he got everybody up for this one. Imagine this…almost ten thousand people all jumping up and down at the same time (not just dancing, but jumping) and clapping their hands in unison. I was blown away and every time I hear this song now, a smile comes to my face remembering that moment.

It’s Eddy Grant, people! Is that not enough for you?  How about Eddy Grant LIVE playing on some weird French television show with male dancers and people all dressed up?  Yeah…that’s fun for today.

And finally, you simply can’t go wrong with this classic from The Boss…

There…I’m feeling better already. Have a great weekend, everybody!
