TMI Thursday

When you looked at yourself in the mirror today, what was the first thing you thought?

Jeez…my hair looks TERRIBLE today.

What’s a word that you say a lot?

“F*ck”…which isn’t something you’d expect to hear from good ol’ CBG because I rarely curse at all on my blog. But in “real life”, I curse waaaay too much.

Your worst enemy?

Myself.

If you had to choose between a million bucks or to be able to fly what would it be?

Y’know, super powers are over-rated. With a million bucks, I could take a trip in an airplane…so really, I’d get the best of both worlds.

The last song you listened to?

If you could be fluent in any other language, what would it be?

French…without a shadow of a doubt.  Y’see, I live in New Brunswick, Canada…which is the only official bilingual province in Canada. If I was fluently bilingual, the job market would easily double for me. In fact, if I was bilingual then the GOOD jobs (i.e. government) would be available to me, as well.

What’s your favourite town/city?

It’s funny because my initial reaction was to say Orlando, Florida. The problem with that is I’m more a fan of the theme parks than the city itself.  So just based on the trip I took there a couple of years ago (and totally NOT influenced by my dinner with Random Esquire), I’d have to say Chicago. It was an unbelievable city with unbelievable character and I cannot wait to go back there again one day, preferably on a vacation with Sunshine.

Can you change the oil on a car?

If you mean Can I drive to the closest Mr. Lube?, then the answer is “Yes”.

How far back do you know about your ancestry?

My grandfather told me a story about my ancestry before he passed away 10+ years ago. He said that my family were originally Roman-Catholic immigrants from France who located on Prince Edward Island upon arriving in Canada.  My great great grandfather (or add another “great” in there…I’m not sure) was a farmer who would sell his wares to the locals. One of his best customers was the local parish.

Apparently, the local priest began buying produce from another farmer. At that point, the family was packed up, moved to mainland Nova Scotia, and ended up becoming English United immigrants who stopped speaking French.

Whether or not any of that story is true, it’s always stayed with me and made me smile when remembering my grandfather telling it.

The last time you dressed fancy, what did you wear and why did you dress fancy?

Actually, I wore a suit just last month to attend my work’s “recognition event”…which had a James Bond theme. Where I was in the first week of Movember, I was lucky enough to have gotten photographic proof of said event.

The Weekend in Pictures

This is what I had to drive through on Friday night in order to get to Sunshine's. Thankfully, it turned to rain about an hour into the 3-hour drive so it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been. Still...this was no April Fool's joke.

Ready for the weekend with Sunshine's new glasses. I know I'm biased, but I think she looks SMOKIN' in them!!

One of the three farmer's markets we went to on Saturday morning was at Alderney Landing in Dartmouth, NS

At one of the markets we went to we found a HUGE display of rubber duckies (there were a LOT more than in this picture). Then...I noticed something...

...a "Gene Simmons" from KISS rubber duckie. I didn't buy it, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to.

Seriously...is this necessary? And would ANYBODY buy this? "He'll stimulate your package"....heh.

Before going out to a movie ("Paul", which was a LOT of fun), we checked out a sushi restaurant. We both thought we'd be ordering the sushi you rolled-up in seaweed (or whatever the heck it is). Didn't realize we ordered a plate of raw fish. Oh well...we gave it a go. On the plate are tuna, salmon, octopus, and more. It was...shall I say...interesting.

Had a nice little Twitter drinking game going on Saturday night with Random Esquire, Mister Mama Sir, and Sunshine. So yeah...I ended up having a lampshade on my head.

That's okay, though, because Sunshine out-did me by suckin' back some of that red red wine. Love it!!

And that’s the weekend in a quick, little nutshell, kids.  Hope yours was also a good one!

Yeah…I met Random Esquire

Stop it…don’t get your panties in a bunch.  I’m not posting a picture of Random Esquire, nor am I going to go into detail on what we did (yet).  I’m just going to post a short recap of my week in pictures…

Authentic Chicago deep dish pizza from Gino's East: 06-15-10

The "Cloud Gate" in Millenium Park, Chicago: 06-15-10

Taking a pic of myself in the "Cloud Gate": 06-15-10

Pic from the top of Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower): 06-15-10

Yeah...about as close to walking out on the ledge at Willis Tower as I was EVER gonna get.

This is Little Filthy...proof that I did, indeed, visit Random Esquire in person. SUCK ON THAT, PEEPS!!

Wrigley Field!!! 06-16-10

Enjoying a beverage while watching the Cubs play: 06-16-10

The Cubs won, and apparently this is a song they play EVERY TIME they win a game. It’s cheesy as heck, but it’s also catch enough that 36,000+ fans were singing it on the way out…

In downtown St. Louis with the Gateway Arch in the background: 06-17-10

That’s it, kids. I’m wiped and once I finish my three plane rides tomorrow, I’ve got an hour (hopefully I get that much time) before picking up Ankle Biter for the weekend. I’m just drained.

But yeah…I’ll give more details next week.

Gots no time!

As of this writing, it’s 1:30am on Friday morning. I’ve been going non-stop since I got off work at 5 o’clock yesterday. What’s going on is aplenty…

  1. I’m going to see Sunshine this weekend. I always end up packing late for my trips to see her. This time’s a bit different, though…she suggested I stay overnight on Sunday and get up early Monday morning to travel back home and go directly to work after the 3-hour drive. I told her I’d give it a shot and see how Monday went. It just means I need to pack some things (neatly) so I can just get dressed for work before I leave at about 5:30am on Monday morning.
  2. I got a call today from my real estate agent asking if I could show the house to a potential buyer on Monday morning. It’s the first showing in almost three weeks, so needless the say the house wasn’t quite ready this afternoon when I got the call. So add mowing the lawn and cleaning the house thoroughly to the list of things I had to do after work last night before even thinking about packing.
  3. I’m traveling to Chicago and St. Louis next week on business and the trip was only confirmed yesterday morning, meaning as soon as I get off of work on Monday I need to pick up Ankle Biter for supper, drop him off, then unpack from the weekend and repack for the trip the next morning…where I need to get up at 4am so I can get to the airport by 5am for my 6am flight.
  4. Oh…did I mention that after I drop the Ankle Biter off at his mom’s I’ll probably have to go back to work on Monday evening to get some last-minute things done for my trip?
  5. I’m currently scheduled to get back on Friday afternoon at about 4:15pm, at which point I need to hustle from the airport to Ankle Biter’s babysitter’s place as it’s my weekend with him.

I’m not expecting to have a solid night’s sleep in my own bed for another week. Ugh.

But on the positive side of things…

  1. I’m spending an extra night with Sunshine, so the VERY long day on Monday will be worth it.
  2. I’m heading to Chicago, which is a city I’ve always wanted to visit and my business meeting isn’t until Wednesday…meaning I’ll be arriving before noon on Tuesday and I’ll be able to go sight-seeing all afternoon.
  3. I’m hopefully going to meet-up with Random Esquire for a beverage on Tuesday night. And probably some food. And maybe another beverage. We’ll play it by ear.
  4. I’m hopefully going to catch a Cubs game on Wednesday night, and seeing a baseball game is something I try to do whenever I’m in an American city (I’ve been able to also catch the Astros and the Cardinals in the last few years).
  5. I’ll only be in the office on Monday for the entire week, which isn’t such a bad thing.
  6. I’ll be able to send my daughter a couple of postcards from two American cities, which I think will be pretty cool…letting her know that her old man is thinking of her wherever he goes.
  7. I return to spend the weekend with my son. How could that be a bad thing?

So yeah…I’m going to TRY to post some things next week, but I can’t make any promises. I’m a busy little boy at the moment. And I’m not done cleaning the house so I gots ta go!!

Have a great weekend everybody!

Hums ‘n’ Huhs

Just as an FYI…I was kinda inspired by Mindy’s recent post about movie soundtracks, so I’ve sprinkled some ‘hums’ in between the ‘huhs’. M’kay?

07-17-09

1. A few weeks ago, Sunshine asked me if I would be interested in looking after her girls for a day and I jumped at the opportunity. See, the girls are on their spring break and Sunshine is working…so where I’ve got Friday I decided to travel down after work tonight so I could handle some “parental duties” tomorrow. I won’t lie…I’m a bit on the nervous side. But her girls are awesome and I love ‘em. I mean, I’ve gotta get ready for the eventuality of me playing the “fatherly role”. I’m not their dad, nor will I ever be their dad. But I’m ready to be another male role model in their life…even if I’m totally unprepared to handle two hyper girls (lol). Like I said…I’m a bit nervous, but I’m really looking forward to it.

2. What 80′s movie about a rock’n'roll brother and sister team starred a guy who was famous for being a snob in a TV family sitcom? Answer here. Single/video here.

3. Sunshine has a friend. It’s a male friend. They’ve been friends for about a year now and I’ve never really had a huge problem with their friendship. I mean, I totally trust Sunshine 100% and the guy is seen as nothing but a friend from her point of view. Recently, though, she asked me what I thought about the possibility of her and the girls going out on a camping trip with him overnight (or two). Now, maybe it’s just me…but that just seems odd for a single straight guy to want to do. So I told her straight-up: I feel weird about it but I trust you to do whatever you want to do. When she asked me to further go into “weird”, I simply asked her to reverse the situation and have me go camping overnight with a single woman friend. She ended up telling her friend that maybe it’s not such a good idea to go camping (her OWN decision, I need to stress). This has now caused tension with her friend. Should I feel guilty about this?

4. What 80′s movie starred an Olympic gymnast and Wayne Gretzky’s (then future) wife and had its hit single/video by one of the members of Duran Duran? Answer here. Single/video here.

5. I feel like I’m letting “Hot Dads” down. I was asked to be a contributor to a great blog and, admittedly, I haven’t been pulling my own weight over the past couple of months. Sure, I contribute here and there…but I feel like there’s more I could be doing. I just have a hard time differentiating between things I want to write about on my blog and things I want to write about on the Hot Dads blog. So I guess I’m apologizing for slacking off. I’ll do my best to get back into the swing of things.

6. What 80′s movie starred a bunch of kids and had a two-part music video that featured World Wrestling Federation wrestlers? Easy one, I think. Here is the entire 12-minute video (trust me…it`s worth the time to watch).

7. Is it wrong that I’m trying to convince two of my national salespeople to bring me down to the U.S. to visit a couple of customers primarily because I just want to go on a trip?  Well…with baseball season starting-up and having Random Esquire offer to take me out to dinner are also a bit of an incentive.  Heh.

8. What 80′s movie featured travelling down a “holiday road”? Single/video here.

9. Dammit…I’m up to 217.2lbs this week. I have simply GOT to stop cheating on my diet because I’m only cheating myself, y’know? FCUK me.

10. This 80`s movie is best-known for one scene involving an actor with a ghetto blaster over his head. That song/video here…and probably the best live performance of that song here.
